World Kidney Day 2026: Honoring Dialysis Warriors & Promoting Kidney Health Awareness
On the occasion of World Kidney Day, an awareness and observance programme was organised in the Dialysis Waiting Area to promote kidney health awareness among patients and the public, while recognising the strength and resilience of dialysis patients.
The programme commenced with a welcome address by Dr. Dipin S, Consultant Nephrologist. The event was graced by Lt. Gen. Dr. Ajith Nilakantan, PVSM (Retd), Executive Director & Medical Superintendent, as the Chief Guest. In his address, he highlighted the importance of early detection, healthy lifestyle practices, and regular medical check-ups in preventing kidney disease.
Dr. Suresh.P, Professor Dept. of General Medicine, in his talk emphasised diabetes and uncontrolled blood sugar as major risk factors affecting kidney health, and stressed the need for regular monitoring and timely medical care. Dr. Darly Saramma Mammen, Head of the Department of Pediatrics, Dr. Gladwin Jeemon, Consultant Nephrologist, and Lt. Col. Amita Naze, Nursing Superintendent, also addressed the gathering, underscoring the significance of World Kidney Day and the need to strengthen public awareness on kidney care.
An awareness session for the public was conducted by Dr. Dipin S, focusing on preventive measures and the importance of safeguarding kidney health through timely medical intervention and lifestyle modification. An awareness class on the diet of kidney patients was conducted by Ms. Sruthi S, Dietician of SNIMS, highlighting the importance of proper nutrition and dietary discipline in managing kidney-related conditions.
The programme featured a special cake-cutting ceremony along with dialysis patients, symbolising solidarity and encouragement. Complimentary gifts were distributed as a gesture of care and appreciation. The event was further enriched by cultural performances by dialysis staff, voluntary singing by patients, and heartfelt sharing of personal experiences, creating a warm and supportive atmosphere.
The event served as a meaningful initiative to reinforce the importance of kidney health awareness, strengthen patient support, and promote community engagement.
