The Department of ENT at Sree Narayana Institute of Medical Sciences (SNIMS) observed World Hearing Day on 3rd March 2026 at Lecture Hall- 03 with an awareness and scientific program focused on early detection, prevention, and treatment of hearing loss.
The event began with a prayer and welcome address by Dr. Unnikrishnan K. Menon, Professor and Head of the ENT Department, followed by the traditional lighting of the lamp. The Chief Guest, Lt. Gen. (Dr.) Ajith Nilakantan, PVSM (Retd), Executive Director and Medical Superintendent, emphasized the importance of early screening and timely intervention. Dignitaries were felicitated during the ceremony.
The scientific session comprised informative presentations by faculty members. Dr. Anju Unnikrishnan delivered a talk on surgically treatable hearing loss, outlining advanced surgical options for hearing restoration. Dr. Yaami Mathew presented on pediatric hearing loss, emphasizing the importance of early screening and timely intervention to support optimal speech and language development in children. Mrs. Megha Kurup, Audiologist, discussed audiological evaluation and hearing aids, highlighting modern diagnostic methods and recent advancements in hearing aid technology. A poster competition was also organized to promote student participation and academic engagement, and prizes were awarded to the winners.
The program concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Vijayalakshmi R., Professor, ENT Department. The celebration highlighted SNIMS’s commitment to promoting hearing health and delivering quality ENT care to the community.
