As part of the Glaucoma Week Observance held from March 8 to 14, 2026, the Department of Ophthalmology at Sree Narayana Institute of Medical Sciences (SNIMS) organised an awareness programme on March 13, 2026, highlighting the importance of early detection and effective management of glaucoma. The programme was inaugurated by Dr. Indira Kumari K. R., Principal, SNIMS, who in her inaugural address emphasised the need for regular eye examinations and enhanced public awareness about glaucoma, one of the leading causes of preventable blindness. Lt. Gen. Dr. Ajith Nilakantan PVSM (Retd), Executive Director and Medical Superintendent, attended the function as the Chief Guest and shared valuable insights on preventive eye care and vision preservation.
An informative awareness session was conducted by Dr. Meenu C. Jacob, HOD-in-Charge, Department of Ophthalmology, who explained the risk factors, symptoms and the importance of timely screening for glaucoma. The session was followed by an interactive question-and-answer segment, during which prizes were distributed to participants.
The observance also featured a poster competition and poster exhibition aimed at creating greater public awareness about glaucoma. Students actively participated in a role-play presentation demonstrating the significance of early diagnosis and treatment.

Amita Naze, Nursing Superintendent; Mrs. Deepthi B.S, AGM – HR; Dr. Deepu Raj, Deputy Manager – Outreach and Development; Mrs. Bindu Praveen, College Administrator; Mr. Abith Ganesh, Deputy Manager – Planning and Development; along with faculty members, students and staff. Dr. Ancy A. delivered the Vote of Thanks.
The initiative successfully enhanced awareness among students and the public regarding glaucoma and reinforced the importance of regular eye check-ups for safeguarding vision.
