    SNIMS observes World Asthma Day with Public Awareness and Community Screening

    The Department of Pulmonary Medicine, Sree Narayana Institute of Medical Sciences (SNIMS), observed World Asthma Day on 5 May 2026 with the aim of spreading awareness about asthma prevention, early diagnosis, and effective management. The programme highlighted the importance of patient education and community involvement in controlling this chronic respiratory condition.

    The programme commenced with a welcome address by Dr. Hemalatha V S, Professor & Head of department Respiratory Medicine who emphasised the growing burden of asthma and the need for timely intervention. The formal inauguration was carried out by Dr. Indira Kumari K R, Principal who spoke on the importance of continued awareness initiatives and patient care services.

    A detailed academic talk on asthma, covering its causes, symptoms, prevention, and management, was delivered by Dr. Reshma(PG Resident)which provided valuable insights to the attendees.

    An engaging quiz session was conducted by Dr. Zone (Associate Professor Dept. Respiratory medicine) and Dr. Deepa Maria Jose(Senior Resident Dept. Respiratory Medicine) encouraging active participation and enhancing knowledge among attendees regarding asthma and its management.

    As part of the programme, a free Pulmonary Function Test (PFT) camp was also organised, providing an opportunity for early screening and assessment for patients and the public.

    Doctors, staff, patients, and bystanders actively participated in the event, making it a meaningful initiative towards improving respiratory health awareness in the community.

    The programme concluded successfully, reinforcing SNIMS’ commitment to promoting respiratory health and preventive care.
