World Suicide Prevention Day Observance at Sree Narayana Institute of Medical Sciences

In observance of World Suicide Prevention Day on September 10, 2025, the Department of Mental Health at Sree Narayana Institute of Medical Sciences, in collaboration with Sree Narayana College of Nursing, the Kerala Branch of the Indian Psychiatric Society, and the Ernakulam Psychiatric Society, organized an awareness program aimed at promoting mental health and suicide prevention.
The program commenced with a welcome address by Dr. Ashok Antony, Professor, Department of Mental Health. Dr. Anoop Vincent, Medical Superintendent and Head of the Department of Mental Health, delivered the presidential address. The event was formally inaugurated by Lt. Gen. (Dr.) Ajith Nilakantan, Executive Director, Sree Narayana Institute of Medical Sciences.
As part of the occasion, Dr. Aleena Johnson, Assistant Professor, and Mr. Binoj Mohan, Assistant Manager, along with SNDP Aluva branch office bearers Mr. Biju V.P., Mrs. Praveena Biju, and Mr. Jagal G., were recognized and felicitated for their support and contributions.
The official launch of the psychological disorder Helpline Number 9744975544 was also held during the program. The helpline was released by Lt. Gen. (Dr.) Ajith Nilakantan and handed over to the postgraduate residents of the Department of Mental Health.
Dr. Joseph Francis, Vice Principal, and Lt. Col. Amita Naze, Nursing Superintendent, offered their felicitations. The vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Aleena Johnson.
Following the inaugural session, a series of suicide prevention awareness classes were conducted by Dr. Sheetal, Dr. Arundhathi, Dr. Gopika, Dr. Zeena, and the postgraduate residents of the Department of Mental Health.
The event emphasized the importance of mental health awareness and the collective responsibility of healthcare professionals and society in preventing suicide and promoting well-being.
